A WEEK of sailing and family fun is set to return this month.

The popular Burnham Week will be runs from August 24-31 and features activities on the water and quayside, and finishes with a spectacular fireworks display.

The event is dubbed the East Coast’s most challenging and friendly regatta and the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, the Royal Burnham Yacht Club and Burnham Sailing Club will be hosting a range of events.

Racing takes place in a wide variety of fleets, from dinghies to cruisers and multihulls.

Racing highlights of Burnham Week include dinghy racing over the first bank holiday, which is being run from the Burnham Sailing Club line, providing a fantastic spectacle right in the centre of town, and the week culminates with the battle for the prestigious Town Cup which takes place on the final Saturday.

A spokesman said: “With a packed racing and social schedule, Burnham Week promises to be a week not to be missed.

“From watching the colourful sails on the start line on the River Crouch to the close sailing, taking a stroll through the town to admiring the spectacular Burnham Week firework display at the end of the event on the quay at 9pm on August 31, there will be plenty to do and see both ashore and afloat.”
