A SCHOOL is on the search for a new location to hold its prom after football stadium bosses cancelled a booking in favour of the Little Mix concert.

The pop group are coming to Colchester’s Jobserve Community Stadium on Friday July 10.

But East Bergholt High School said it had agreed with Colchester United bosses to hold its prom at the venue on the night of the concert.

They were informed about the clash the day before the Little Mix tour was announced.

Stadium staff offered up an alternative date but the school said it would now look for an alternative location.

In an email to parents the school said: “As you may already be aware, Colchester United have now booked a concert the same evening as our school prom, despite us having been told the date was confirmed.

“They informed us on Sunday evening that we are no longer able to hold the school prom at Colchester United

“We are currently trying to find another suitable venue so the prom can remain on Friday, July 10.

“Colchester United have offered us an alternative date, however, we are mindful of the impact it would have on students who have forward planned if we change the date.

“Please be reassured that we are doing everything possible to ensure that this is a memorable event to celebrate the last five years of student’s efforts and work at East Bergholt High School.”

The school said it would keep parents informed as soon as it has a new venue was in place.

Little Mix are returning to the stadium after a sell-out performance in 2018.

The pop superstars announced the gig as part of a 21-date summer round of shows next year.

Colchester United General Manager Tim Waddington said: “It is unfortunate that this situation has arisen.

"The terms and conditions that appear on the contract that was signed by East Bergholt School clearly state that we reserve the right to cancel a booking should a concert be forthcoming, and that no responsibility, financial or otherwise, can be accepted.

“We have cleared our diary and offered them July 3 for their prom.

"This was the original date they requested, but we couldn’t commit to at the time of booking.

"The timing of the concert coming to us was later than normally expected.”
