A TEENAGE drug dealer who wore a skeleton mask as he tried to stab a man to death can be named for the first time.

The Gazette successfully applied for the restriction on identifying Ermias Yohannes to be lifted.

Ipswich Crown Court heard the 16-year-old – who was just 15 at the time of the terrifying Halloween attack last year- had a string of previous convictions, including for robbery.

He was handed a 19 year sentence – 14 in custody with a five year extended licence period.

His co-defendants - Donald Adu and Calvin Armstrong - were jailed for 26 years apiece.

Harwich and Manningtree Standard:

Jailed - Donald Adu and Calvin Armstrong

He was the first to attack Mr Sobers in an alleyway near Mandeville Road, Marks Tey, last year.

Since being remanded in custody Yohannes, of Eagle Drive, Colchester, has been caught fighting at least twice.

Judge Martyn Levett said: “You record is unenviable for someone so young.

“No matter what is done to help you return to gang life time and time again.

“You are well versed in carrying a knife – there was no peer pressure put on you at all to carry out this attack and you showed no remorse afterwards.

“You took a knife to the scene and were the first person to use it.”

While granting The Gazette’s application, Judge Levett said the press had an important role in reporting on criminal trials and it was clear in this case there was a strong public interest in the community knowing about everyone involved in the attack.
