ROADWORKS to replace traffic lights at a busy junction before they fail to work have been postponed.

Essex Highways was set to start to renew the traffic signals at the junction of B1352 in High Street, Dovercourt, and B1414, in Kingsway today.

But the work, which was expected to be completed by February 24, has been put back.

An Essex Highways spokesman said: "We acknowledge local concerns relating to the planned works to renew the traffic signal equipment at the junction of High Street/Kingsway and have decided to postpone the works."

The works will now start on Monday, February 17 and are set to take about three weeks to complete.

He added: "We appreciate this is a traffic sensitive site and have carefully planned the works to minimise disruption to pedestrians and traffic in the area.

"Please be assured access to shops and businesses in the affected area will be maintained throughout the duration of the works.

"Lane restrictions will be required during working hours and will be managed by temporary traffic signals to provide to a safe working area while operatives are on site.

"There are no planned road closures and there disruption should be kept to a minimum."
