TOURISTS are being warned to check the weather forecast before travelling to Constable Country this weekend due to high river levels.

Visitors to Dedham and Flatford are being advised due to heavy rainfall in the areas, there could be some disruption to rural and coastal areas.

The River Stour is expected to be high due to increased rainfall and the riverside path between Flatford and Dedham is expected to be unwalkable.

A spokesman for the National Trust, which runs Flatford Mill, said: "After all the recent rain, the river Stour has started rising again at Flatford.

"It is now quite high and looks set to rise further. This means that you are unable able to walk from Flatford to Dedham via the riverside path.

"The water is flowing very quickly too, so please keep away from the river bank. However, the Tea Room, Gift Shop and walking trails will be open as planned, so we'd love to see you this weekend."

A spokesman for Visit Colchester, Colchester Council's tourism arm, added: "We have experienced a lot of rain in our area recently, so do check the weather forecast before you travel, especially in rural and coastal areas."
