AN amateur photographer has highlighted what she has described as “under appreciated” street art by snapping pictures of colourful graffiti.

Steph Watson, 32, from Highwoods, Colchester, is nurturing a growing interest in photography, inspired by her 11-year-old son, Jasper.

“It’s a relatively new hobby and my son got me interested,” she said.

“He’s always enjoyed experimenting with taking photos on his phone and he took some really great pictures a while ago."

Steph and Japser walked to the Hythe to take pictures of boats, but were instead taken in not by the seascapes or traditional barges by the graffiti adorning walls and buildings.

She shared pictures of the street art to a Colchester community social media page.

“Comments remarked on how much they liked the art and how under appreciated street art is,” she said.

Steph, who works for a freight forwarding company, added: “I didn’t know about the street art at the Hythe.

“We actually went down there to get a few shots of the boats and just happened to stumble across the graffiti. It really is amazing.

“I personally enjoy street photography, so street art massively appeals to me anyway. I think when it’s done well and I’m good taste, it is real art and is so misunderstood.”
