POLICE are negotiating with a man who has climbed onto a supermarket roof.

The man got onto Asda in Main Road, Dovercourt, shortly before 9pm on Tuesday and was still up there on Wednesday morning.

Essex Police have deployed negotiators and are continuing to speak to the man.

A police spokesman said:  "We are working with our partners and the store management as we deal with this incident.

"We have put cordons in place and the store continues to remains shut. Please avoid the area.

"We thank people for their support and assistance."

A fire service cherry picker is in the car park of the store.

Customers are being turned away from the store this morning, however residents of the nearby Heron Way are still able to access their homes.
