A BID to build homes on a field in Cock Clarks has been turned down.
Millen Homes wanted to build five houses on land off Hackmans Lane.
The proposals sparked a number of objections from villagers living near to the site.
The plans were turned down by Maldon District Council in April.
The developers launched an appeal in a bid to overturn the decision.
But a planning inspector ruled in favour of the council.
The inspector said one of the houses was "very close" to a neighbouring property called Caxton Pride and could block out the sunlight and "unacceptably harm the living conditions of the occupiers".
The inspector also said parking spaces included in the plans were not big enough, which could force drivers to park in the narrow road.
