YOUNGSTERS at a special school got to see the county’s first fire investigation dog despite coronavirus restrictions.

Students at Market Field School in Elmstead Market were given a practical demonstration by dog handler Graham Currie, search and rescue dog Jarvis and fire investigation dog Fizz which was beamed in from the headquarters to be shown on a big screen.

Mr Currie and watch manager Dave Bond talked about fire safety and careers in the fire service to the pupils.

Mr Bond said: “Seeing how engaged the pupils were was really inspiring - we had a lot of questions ranging from the different incidents we go to and animal rescues to our fire engines and of course, our fire dogs.

“It’s important we continue to interact as much as we can with members of the public and schools, even in these difficult times.

“Advances in technology and the fire service’s commitment to embracing new ways of doing things allow us to continue to deliver our key safety messages and community engagement in new, but just as effective ways”.
