Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Oprah interview will air tonight - here's everything you need to know about the "shocking" chat.

Oprah Winfrey has interviewed the royal couple in a 90-minute special set to air in the US.

It will be the first televised interview the couple has given since retiring from duties as senior royals last year.

The couple are expected to discuss this decision in more detail, the recent news regarding their second child, and their hopes and plans for the future.

But how can you watch the interview in the UK?

When will the Oprah interview air?

The interview is set to air as a two-part special on Sunday, March 7 at 8pm Eastern Time (1am on Monday, March 8 UK time).

Titled Oprah with Meghan and Harry, the programme will be broadcast on the US TV network CBS.

How can I watch it in the UK?

ITV have landed the UK rights to the interview and it will air on ITV on Monday, March 8 at 9pm the day after it is broadcast in the US.

The broadcaster reportedly bought the rights to the Sussexes chat with Oprah for £1m.

Kevin Lygo, ITV managing director of media & entertainment, said: “This interview is already a national talking point and ITV is pleased to be able to offer UK audiences the opportunity to see it.”

What can we expect from the interview?

According to CBS, the interview will initially feature the Duchess discussing “stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood”.

She will then be joined by Prince Harry, and the couple will talk about their move to the US and future plans.

In a trailer for the programme, Winfrey is seen asking the Duchess, “Were you silent or were you silenced?”

The talk show host then goes on to say: “I just want to be clear to everybody there is no subject that is off-limits.”

Referencing the Duchess’ 2020 comments in relation to the online abuse she suffered, Winfrey can be seen saying: “‘Almost insurvivable’ sounds like there was a breaking point.”

Prince Harry goes on to say: “My biggest concern was history repeating itself,” a reference to the intense media scrutiny and harassment faced by his mother.

The clip ends with the Duke and Duchess holding hands, while Winfrey says: “You’ve said some pretty shocking things here.”

The interviews were conducted last week, but Winfrey prepared additional questions after the Queen stripped the couple of their royal patronages when it was confirmed that they would not return as working royals.

What has Buckingham Palace said about the controversial interview?

Buckingham Palace is understood to be nervous about the contents of the interview, amid reports that the couple will “open up about the tension within the Royal Family” and would be “speaking the truth”.

The Duchess has already stated in court documents that she felt “unprotected by the [royal] institution” during her pregnancy and claimed that she was “prohibited from defending herself” against stories published in the media.

Buckingham Palace said it would not be commenting on the Sussexes’ decision to do the interview.

Just hours before the couple’s interview is aired in the US, BBC One will also broadcast an annual Commonwealth message from the Queen.

The pre-recorded message titled A Celebration for Commonwealth Day will also feature the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Countess of Wessex.
