POLICE are investigating the death of a man following a car fire at the weekend.

Officers were called an incident in Cavendish following reports of a vehicle fire on Saturday, March 6.

Firefighter and police attended the call just after 7.30am to find a vehicle alight on the The Green in the village.

The driver of a grey Hyundai IX35 estate car, a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say his next of kin have been informed.

It is understood they aren't treating the man's death as suspicious.

A spokesman for Suffolk Police said: "Police can confirm that a man has died following a car fire in Cavendish.

"Police investigating the circumstances of an incident in Cavendish can confirm that they are not treating the death of a man as suspicious at this time.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.

"Two other cars, parked nearby, were damaged as a result of the fire.

"The road remains closed at this time whilst an investigation into the circumstances of the incident takes place.

"Any witnesses, or anyone driving in the area at around 7:30am with a dashcam in their vehicle, are asked to contact the Suffolk Police, quoting reference: CAD 64 of 6 March."
