Planning application submitted for glamping pods in Dedham

A landowner has submitted a planning application to install the pods on land west of Coggeshall Road, Dedham.

They would be used to provide self-catering accommodation for glamping holidays.

Each would have a bedroom, living area including a small kitchen and a bathroom.

A planning report states: "Dedham is a famous tourist destination, and this proposal will provide a nature experience not available elsewhere in the area.

"The application site is ideally located to explore a range of local tourist attractions.

"Tourist attractions in the village include; the Munnings Museum with shop and café, Arts and Craft centre, art gallery, boat house café and boat hire centre.

"Other tourist attractions within cycling distance of the application site include the Constable countryside around Flatford, Flatford Mill, Flatford Wildlife Garden, Willy Lott’s Cottage, river Stour boat trips, the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and Bridge Cottage National Trust property."

 

Accommodation will be bookable for stays of three, four, seven, ten of 14 nights all year round.

The report adds: "The site is accessible by public transport and the proposed tourism use would provide local job opportunities and support local businesses without causing any material harm to any interest of acknowledged importance."

The report says the site itself is located outside the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

A previous bid to install the pods was refused by Colchester Council.

The council will have the final say on the fresh proposals.
