THREE floors of fashion will soon greet excited shoppers as Primark announces the opening date for its new superstore in Southend.

The building - formerly home to BHS - will have 60 per cent more retail space and 60 additional jobs have been created.

The highly anticipated store in Southend High Street will be open to the public on October 14.

The current store in the The Royals will close, and all staff will move to the new one.

However, mystery still remains on what will replace the current Primark once it becomes empty in a few weeks. The Royals were unable to comment on this when approached by the Echo.

The new store will showcase three floors of fashion and will feature the latest trends in women’s, men’s and children’s fashions, including footwear and accessories, as well as lingerie, beauty and homeware.

Customers will also be able to shop Primark’s new “Primark Cares” range - products made using sustainable, recycled, and organic materials.

Shoppers are eager to step inside the glossy, new store which is expected to make a prominent mark on the high street.

Rani Shipton, 32, from Ambleside Drive, in Southend, said: “I am really excited to see what it’s going to be like and I am glad they have been able to get it ready in time for Christmas.

“With the high street going more and more downhill each year and more empty shops this will be a great asset to our town centre but hopefully, the Primark in the Royals won’t be left as an empty shell for too long.”

Councillor Ron Woodley, added: “Hopefully they will have a bigger and better range of items for sale, as good as their Belfast shop, which from my understanding is terrific.

“As for footfall, we do everything we can as a council to increase that, we are doing as much as we can on our parking strategy. Southend is one of highest town centres in the country for an increase in footfall coming back so it seems we are doing something right.”

There will be strict social distancing protocols within the store, to help safeguard employees and customers.
