I FOUND the Echo article regarding the history of the A127 very interesting.

Whilst there has been many junction upgrades over the decades to help facilitate improved traffic flows, the one constant that has remained since it was built, is that it has remained as two lanes each way throughout.

To put that in to context, there were two million vehicles when the road was first constructed, there are now 36 million as of 2019.

The one thing the A127 needs more than anything else, is a significant increase in overall carriageway capacity, not just to help cope with the current lengthy periods of congestion it suffers from, but to build future capacity in to the road as well.
