THE APPLETON School in Benfleet, has confirmed an individual is self-isolating after testing positive for Covid-19.
A letter that went home to parents states that only a small number of children would have been in "direct, prolonged contact" with this person, and that have been informed to self isolate for 14 days.
The letter reads: "We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of Covid019 within the school.
"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and working closely with Public Health England.
"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child.
"Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus will be a mild illness.
"The small number of children that have been in direct, prolonged contact with the individual confirmed to have tested posted for Covid-19 have been contacted directly and will be staying home for 14 days."
It further stated that the school, at Croft Road, will remain open, and that all children who feel well should continue to come to school.
