A MUM who has been told she has just four weeks to live has flown to Mexico in a last-ditch effort to have life-saving treatment.

Litha Georgiades, 50, from Leigh, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and after treatment and a mastectomy, she was given the all clear by doctors and told she was cancer free.

However, after suffering from severe stomach pains, an MRI scan on Thursday revealed she had stage four liver cancer.

Determined to survive for her 13-year-old son, Edward, Litha started crowd funding in order to book treatment in at the Gerson Clinic, in Mexico.

Within 24 hours, £10,000 had been donated, which quickly rose to the £20,000 target. Litha and her friend Carley Hamilton arrived in Mexico yesterday.

Determined - Litha and Carley on their way to Mexico

Carley said: “From the day Litha found out that she has cancer not once did she not have a smile on her face. Everyday she is positive and adamant that she will get through this.

“She never once has complained or cried. She has just got on with life with her beautiful son, Edward.

“Being a single mum and going through this terrible disease, I look at her most days and just don’t know how she does it.

“You only have to be in her company for a few minutes and feel the warmth, love and laughter that she projects.”

Litha was told by the clinic she would need a stent before treatment could go ahead, at an additional cost of £5,000.

She decided it would be best to still go to Mexico as planned, but is now racing against time to try and raise the extra funds to save her life.

Litha’s sister, Zoe Dean, 53, added: “I saw Litha in lockdown and she was fine. There was no sign of anything and then she had stomach pains several times but said it was nothing. Then after an MRI they said it’s in her liver and she’s got four weeks to live and there’s nothing you can do. We all found this out on Thursday so it’s all happened very quickly.”
