THREE members of staff at an Asda supermarket have reportedly tested positive for Covid-19.

It is understood the workers at the shop at the Eastgate Shopping Centre in Basildon are all now self-isolating as a result.

The Echo has been approached by several sources about the positive cases.

Asda has not commented directly on the claims but says any staff member who displays coronavirus symptoms is ordered to immediately self-isolate and get a test.

A spokesman said any confirmed cases among staff is reported to the track and trace system to ensure customers who came into contact with the individual are informed.

He added: "We would never comment on individual colleague circumstances, but the safety of both our colleagues and customers has been our key priority throughout the pandemic.

"This is why we have extensive measures in place such as protective screens, social distancing signage and numerous hand sanitiser stations across all our stores.

"Our customers can rest assured that we continue to follow government guidance by asking any colleagues with coronavirus symptoms to immediately self-isolate and are supporting them by providing full pay during the isolation period."
