A busy stretch of the A13 will be closed this weekend to allow for the demolition of a bridge.

It forms part of major project to widen the road between the A128 (Orsett Cock roundabout) and the A1014 (The Manorway, Stanford-le-Hope).

The A13 will be closed between these two locations in both directions this weekend as the next phase of the scheme gets underway.

The closure comes into place tonight from 9pm and will run until 5am on Monday.

Contractors will be removing old Horndon Bridge.

Demolition works will start this evening and will be completed by Saturday evening.

The A13 road closure will remain for the rest of the weekend so other works can take place, such as resurfacing and drainage works.

Thurrock Council has warned the demolition work may affect nearby residents due to the noise made.

A spokesman said: "The demolition will create noise and cause some vibration, but not enough to damage property.

"Levels of vibration will be monitored throughout.

"We apologise to residents nearby for disturbance caused.

"Dust from the demolition will be suppressed using equipment that will create a fine mist.

"This may be visible in the air but poses no risk to human health."

Harwich and Manningtree Standard:

Local traffic is asked to use the diversion route via the A1013 Stanford Road.

A longer diversion via the A127 and M25 is also in place.
