HARWICH Amateur Boxing Club’s John Wheatley should be proud of his achievements – despite missing out on a national quarter-final.
That’s the view of head coach Martin Webb, reflecting on last weekend’s Amateur Boxing Association elite contest in Aldershot.
Wheatley was defeated by Woking’s Joe Luis D’Santos, when the pair met in an elite pre quarter-final, knowing the winner would progress to the next stage in Liverpool.
However, D’Santos secured a unanimous points decision to advance at Wheatley’s expense.
Nevertheless, Harwich coach Webb described his boxer as a “true ambassador”.
“John can be proud of his efforts during these championships,” he said.
