LITTLE Oakley boss Sean Tynan says he and his players cannot wait to get back in action this weekend - to start righting the wrongs of their 8-0 hammering at May and Baker.

The Acorns suffered an uncharacteristic off-day as they crashed to a heavy Thurlow Nunn League defeat.

Now they have a run of four straight home games - starting with Saturday's division one south contest against Benfleet at the Memorial Ground.

"Hopefully it'll be our only big defeat of the season," said Tynan, reflecting on the May and Baker setback.

"It was a very bad day at the office, as the score suggests.

"We just didn't turn up and let both ourselves and the club down.

"We lacked fight and desire and that's not like us at all.

"We normally scrap and compete for every ball.

"It was very disappointing but it was our first defeat of the season, albeit a heavy one, and we have to keep things in perspective."

Ironically, Tynan said his side started strongly and he did not see any indication of the goal avalanche that followed.

"I didn't see it coming because we started well," he said.

"Greg Rodger hit the bar with a header early on but after losing concentration and conceding a sloppy goal from a set-piece, things went downhill very quickly.

"The writing was on the wall but it would have been worse had it not been for our keeper, Luke (Tynan).

"He stood up to the challenge, making five or six saves, and without him it would have been double figures.

"He was our man-of-the-match."

Oakley have another home game on Tuesday, against neighbours Holland FC, in the First Division Knockout Cup.

Then they welcome Enfield 1893 to the Memorial Ground for next weekend's big FA Vase tie, followed by a league game at home to Wormley Rovers on October 20.

"We're looking forward to a run of home games because we like to think of our ground as a fortress," added Tynan.

"We have to make the most of our home advantage and we want to put another run together."
