COLCHESTER United boss John McGreal has vowed to stick to his guns ahead of tonight’s League Two clash at Grimsby Town.

The U’s conceded a late winner and lost 2-1 at home to Cambridge United, on Saturday.

It means they are still seeking their first league victory of the season, heading into tonight’s next assignment at Blundell Park.

Nevertheless, McGreal said: “I won’t change the way I want to do things.

“We’ll analyse what happened at the weekend and then try and move on. This is how we play and we’ll keep bringing boys through.

“We’ve lost really important players but replaced them with other very good signings.

“We’re looking for that next batch coming through, too, and you could see there were four or five of them on the bench, on Saturday.”

In terms of performance, McGreal was delighted with the way his side played in the first half against Cambridge.

And he knows that if they can replicate that quality for 90 minutes, they will be more than a match for anyone in League Two.

He said: “Cambridge are a tight group that went to Brentford and got a good result (in the Carabao Cup last Tuesday).

“But we cut through them unbelievably well at times.

“We’ll take the positives out of it because we played particularly well, but we lost the game and we’ve got to improve on that.

“You pick the bones out of things and, of course, there are frustrations at not winning the game, despite being so on top.

“It’ll be another tough one tonight - every match is tough - but there are lots of good, positive things to build on from the weekend.”

Colchester will check on the fitness of Tom Lapslie (thigh) and Ryan Clampin (ankle) ahead of the Grimsby trip.

Cohen Bramall is suspended, while Harry Pell remains sidelined.
