HARWICH and Parkeston complete their preparations for the new Thurlow Nunn League, this weekend.

The Shrimpers host Colne Athletic at the Gwinnells Royal Oak in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

Harwich's good form in their friendlies continued when they played out a goal-less draw with Isthmian League division north outfit Basildon United, who play two steps higher than the Shrimpers.

Town manager Mike Wallace wrote on Twitter: 'Thanks @alexsalmon17 for game what the boys needed. Brilliant boys and staff you have at @BasUtdFC credit to the club. Good luck for season, will be looking out for your results'.

Like Harwich, the visitors have enjoyed some encouraging results in their friendlies and with supporters now able to attend, there was a good atmosphere at the Oak.

The match was evenly contested from the start with Basildon demonstrating their status with pacey moves and Harwich raising their game to compete.

In the 25th minute Shrimpers keeper Sam Felgate pulled off a great diving point-blank save to prevent Basildon from taking the lead.

Rory Harman then went close with a snap shot after good Harwich build up while livewire Charlie Lindoe's low free-kick was gathered at the second attempt by the Basildon keeper.

At the other end, the Harwich defence had to be at their best to keep the first-half goal-less against Basildon's sharp attackers.

The second half was also entertaining with Harwich having two good goal-scoring chances.

They went close when a super cross Matt Geen was miscued, before there was another dangerous cross to the far post and Ollie Laws put the ball just wide, soon after.

Basildon were also looking for a winner and although the match ended goal-less, it proved to be an excellent work out for both sides and a good watch for spectators.

Harwich squad: Sam Felgate GK, Billy Lato came on HT at RB, Jack Higgy LB, Joe Knight CB, Tyler Smith RB, Fabio CB, Olly Law on for Jamie Beecham, Wayne Blackman DM, Rory Harman RM, Bailey Barnard did not come on, Harry Banner LM, Harry Miller on for Matt Geen, Charlie Lindoe CF, Jay Eggerichs on for Harry Banner, Matt Geen CF.

Harwich Reserves enjoyed a good result in their pre-season friendly against Holland Reserves.

Goals from Kieran Watkinson and Rob Good secured a win for the Shrimpers Reserves.

Chris Johnson was also prominent with assists for both goals and a rocket free-kick that crashed against the underside of the crossbar.

Harwich and Parkeston season-tickets are on sale for the 2020-21 campaign.

Adult season-tickets are priced at £70, while senior citizen season-tickets cost £40.
