HARWICH and Parkeston won 2-1 at Coggeshall United in the Essex Senior Cup preliminary round, writes DANIEL ROGERS.

After their first league victory of the season last Saturday, the Shrimpers' performance showed that they are growing in confidence.

Harwich fielded an attacking 4-3-3 formation and made a great start,

In the seventh minute excellent build up play from Ben Hammond and Rob Good saw Matt Geen put a lovely ball across the penalty box for Findley Caro to tap home, giving the Shrimpers the lead.

Caro's wing play was causing Coggeshall's defence problems and winning free-kicks in dangerous positions.

In the 39th minute, Rob Good's clever back heel shot following a corner kick, was cleared off the goal line by a Coggeshall defender.

A few minutes later Nicky Palmer's cross was headed inches over by Reece Harte to end a half which Harwich had dominated.

Soon after the restart, Shrimpers keeper Brad Cook made a fine save to thwart the oncoming United striker.

In the 55th minute a Harwich free-kick hit the defensive wall and Harte followed up to hit a 25-yard shot via the top of the post into the corner of the net to increase the Shrimpers lead.

It was against the run of play that Coggeshall reduced the lead in the 63rd minute but buoyed up, they had a spell of dominance and hit the crossbar.

It was end to end from now on and in the last minute, Cook pulled off a match-winning save to guarantee Harwich victory.

Another outstanding team display with everyone playing their part.

Harwich are at Frenford in Thurlow Nunn League first division south, on Saturday.

On Tuesday Harwich entertain White Ensign in the next round of the Essex Senior Cup, kick-off 7.45pm.
