HARRY Mann scored twice as Little Oakley ran out 2-0 winners at bottom side Sporting Bengal United in their latest Essex Senior League game, writes LARRY DOBKIN.

While Bengal had two or three excellent players, they did not have a meaningful shot on target and allowed Oakley to have long periods of possession.

Dobkin's powerful header flew straight at the keeper and Garrard shot marginally wide, as the Acorns pushed for an opener.

Garrard then found himself one on one with the keeper who came out and made himself big to save at the Oakley player's feet.

Farthing headed just over the bar before Oakley took the lead, four minutes before half-time.

A cross into the box found player of the match Mann, who skilfully controlled before turning and shooting into the net.

It gave the Acorns the lead to take into the second half and Bengal went close just after the break when their centre-forward's volley forced Joyce to pull off a good save.

The home side were then reduced to ten men when they had a player sent off for a foul on Harman, after a 50-50 challenge.

With conditions being difficult at best with heavy rain and poor underfoot conditions, the decision seemed very harsh.

Bengal showed spirit and tried to play football along the ground.

But the Acorns doubled their lead when Joyce's long clearance was flicked on by Garrard for Mann to coolly slot home.

However, after a discussion with his assistant, the referee disallowed the goal for offside.

Matt Carmichael queried the decision with the referee, who was not happy and booked the Oakley boss.

The conversation continued and a second yellow card, followed by a red, was shown.

However, it was not long before Oakley did make it 2-0.

Ridgway-Lumley found space down the wing and fired in a pinpoint cross for Mann to hold off a Bengal defender and powerfully send a low shot passed the keeper.

The conditions were steadily worsening and constructive play was hard to produce.

Oakley showed they are getting used to the league and cleverly managed the game, not allowing Bengal any chances.
