A LAST-GASP goal from skipper Gareth Heath sealed Harwich and Parkeston a 1-0 win over Frenford, writes TERRY FRANCIS.
It was the Shrimpers' third straight win and lifts them to fifth from bottom in Thurlow Nunn League first division south and almost certainly safe from relegation.
In front of a good crowd of 180, the Shrimpers lined up for a photo shoot behind their under-nine year squad from their flourishing youth section.
The match was competitive from the start with the teams seeking midfield supremacy.
Both defences were very solid and the teams found it difficult to create scoring chances and the first half ended goal-less.
This pattern continued after the break and the game reached the closing stages with a nervous finish for supporters knowing that a goal now would prove decisive.
In the last minute, Frenford won a corner but Harwich goalkeeper Brad Cook had handled the ball confidently throughout and he plucked the high cross out of the air before setting a move in motion.
Harwich worked the ball forward and skipper Heath fired in a clever curling shot which went in off the post and over the goal line for a jubilant Shrimpers team to snatch a last-gasp victory.
Harwich travel to meet Newbury Forest on Saturday whilst the Reserves entertain Gosfield United, kick-off 3pm.
