MORE than 300 fans turned out for a charity football match featuring former players from Harwich and Colchester, raising an estimated £3,000.
The match between Harwich Angels and former Colchester United star Karl Duguid’s 'Local Legends' was in aid of the Alzheimer's Society.
The Local Legends won 4-2 at the at Harwich and Parkeston FC ground, with Duguid scoring a hat-trick.
Harwich Angels FC manger Martin Warnes said the match was instigated by former Harwich and Parkeston FC chairman Barry Vernon, who died in April.
Mr Warnes said: “What Barry set up and started is what we finished, and it looks like we are going to raise a decent amount, between £3,000 and £3,500 or more.
“We would like to once again thank the support from our supporter Freight 365 and for all the people who came.”
He added: “Fingers crossed we hope to put up another similar event for next year.”
