Colchester United drew 0-0 with Chesterfield on Saturday afternoon, to extend their unbeaten league run to five matches.

The U's played out a goal-less draw at the Proact Stadium against the Spireites, who ended a three-match losing run with the point.

The result sees Colchester slip out of the top seven to eighth place in the League Two table and John McGreal’s men host Cambridge United, on Monday.

Here, Colchester United reporter Jonathan Waldron rates the players following another point on the road:

SAM WALKER 7

Made a good save to foil Rowley early on and played his part in clean sheet.

RYAN JACKSON 7

Got forward well and enjoyed a good battle with Binnom-Williams throughout.

TOM EASTMAN 8

Another impressive performance by the U’s centre-back who looked assured.

FRANKIE KENT 8

U’s man of the match. Strong in the air and made a fine last-ditch tackle to deny Binnom-Williams.

KANE VINCENT-YOUNG 6

Given a testing time by the lively Rowley but made some positive attack runs.

BRANDON COMLEY 6

Retained the ball well and always tried to be positive in possession.

TOM LAPSLIE 6

Enjoyed a competitive scrap with Chesterfield midfield duo McCourt and Reed.

KYEL REID 6

Delivered some accurate crosses that were not seized upon and worked hard.

DREY WRIGHT 6

Enjoyed some positive runs and was denied by Eastwood just before the hour.

SAMMIE SZMODICS 7

U’s leading scorer was denied by keeper Eastwood and also went close in second half.

MIKAEL MANDRON 6

Had a fairly quiet game by his standards and was well marshalled by the Spireites defence.
