Colchester United got back to winning ways with a deserved 3-1 victory over Yeovil Town tonight, at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Two goals from Frank Nouble and another from Tom Eastman secured the U's three points against the Glovers, helping them bounce back immediately from their 2-1 loss against Bury at the weekend.

Tom James grabbed a late consolation for Yeovil in stoppage-time with a fine 25-yard free-kick, but the hosts were well worth their win.

Colchester head coach McGreal made two changes to his side, with Eastman passed fit to play after his head injury against Bury and Tom Lapslie recalled to the starting line-up after a five-game absence from league football.

Frankie Kent missed out because of an ankle injury while Brandon Comley dropped to the bench but leading goalscorer Luke Norris started after suffering an ankle injury against Bury.

Colchester, eager to put their weekend defeat to Bury behind them, started well and Sammie Szmodics' side-footed effort from the edge of the area was pushed away well by keeper Nathan Baxter after a corner had not been properly cleared.

Olufela Olomola’s low drive went straight at U’s keeper Dillon Barnes from the edge of the box but Yeovil rarely threatened in a first half where the hosts were on top.

Baxter was called in action again in the ninth minute when he turned away Ryan Jackson’s low 20-yard effort for a corner, as the U’s pressed.

Frank Nouble could only send a header onto the roof of the net after skipper Luke Prosser had helped on Courtney Senior’s corner, before the hosts made the breakthrough they wanted in the 26th minute.

Harry Pell headed on Senior’s corner and Eastman fired past Baxter at the far post to give the U’s the lead and become the tenth different player to score for Colchester this season.

Colchester threatened more goals after that and Luke Norris fired a fierce 25-yard effort straight at Baxter, who then denied the U’s leading scorer again from close range after Shaun Donnellan’s hesitancy in his own area allowed him a sniff of goal.

But Yeovil started the second half well and Alex Fisher missed a good chance to level things up just after the break when he blasted over from close range, after Jordan Green’s fine run and cross had set him up.

Colchester continued to create chances though and Norris almost doubled their lead ten minutes after half-time when his ferocious strike from the right edge of the area flashed inches over the bar.

And the U’s did double their lead just before the hour mark.

Nouble dispossessed Green near the halfway line and advanced towards goal before lifting a long-range shot over Baxter and in, for his second goal of the season.

Colchester were relatively comfortable after that, although Olufela Olomola dragged a low shot wide of the far post for Yeovil with ten minutes remaining.

But the U's made it 3-0 with six minutes to go through Nouble, who fired in his second of the game from just outside the area after being picked out by Szmodics.

And although James scored a late consolation for Yeovil, the hosts were well worth their win.
