IN-FORM Colchester United striker Luke Norris has set his sights on helping them claim back-to-back league wins for the first time, this season.

The U’s leading scorer took his personal goal tally for the season to eight with a late strike that sealed his side’s 3-1 triumph over Crawley Town, which lifted them up to sixth in the table.

Colchester are now preparing for successive away games at Morecambe and Grimsby Town and in-form striker Norris wants them to maintain that winning feeling.

He said: “If you look at our next two fixtures against Morecambe and Grimsby, they’re very winnable games.

“We need back-to-back wins in the league.

“It’s not happened but I think we have a great chance again.

“Our home form has been terrific so we have a long trip up there and we’ll be looking for three points and nothing less.”

Norris grabbed a deserved goal in the closing stages against Crawley, to cap a fine individual display that also saw him provide assists for both Sammie Szmodics and Frank Nouble.

“I want to score goals but there are a lot of goals in this team,” said the 25-year-old, who is currently the third highest scorer in League Two.

“It’s all over the pitch and to have that in a squad in this league gives you a real chance – that will start showing in the next few weeks and months.

“I’ve put in on a plate for two of them but I thought Noubs’ first-time finish was very good.

“It was nice to score. It was a bit emotional because of the way the game was going – it was getting heated and they were on top.

“It was a fairly hard finish from that sort of distance and I know the goalkeeper (Glenn Morris) really well.

“He’s a very, very good goalkeeper and it was nice to see it go in.”

Szmodics had given Colchester the lead but they were pegged back just before half-time when Filipe Morais equalised from the spot, after Luke Prosser was adjudged to have fouled Luke Gambin in the area.

Norris added: “It was nice to go 1-0 up but then we had another poor decision given against us from the referee and that’s two in two weeks.

“It was a blatant dive and their lad (Luke Gambin) has even admitted it, so that was a bit annoying.

“It got quite heated in there at half-time – but in a good way.

“We needed to channel it and I thought we did.

“We dropped a bit too deep in the second half but we hung on and I thought we defended really well.

“It got a bit heated with the referee and the fans but I thought we came out in the second half and showed our quality and deserved to win.”
