Colchester United played out a 1-1 draw with struggling Macclesfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

Frank Nouble's penalty just after half-time secured the U's a point at the Moss Rose, cancelling out Scott Wilson's opener scored seconds before the break.

The result sees Colchester drop to sixth spot in the League Two table, and John McGreal’s men host Carlisle United, next weekend.

Here, Colchester United reporter Jonathan Waldron rates the players following the 1-1 draw on the road:

RENE GILMARTIN 7

Made saves from Rose and Cole and had little chance with Macclesfield’s goal

RYAN JACKSON 6

Attacking opportunities were restricted against his former club but defended well

FRANKIE KENT 6

Was given plenty to think about by Macclesfield’s front two Smith and Wilson

LUKE PROSSER 6

U’s skipper seemed to enjoy his tussle with Smith on his 300th career first-team appearance

KANE VINCENT-YOUNG 7

Was a competent performer at left-back on his 100th league appearance for Colchester

TOM LAPSLIE 6

Gave Macclesfield midfield little time on the ball before being withdrawn early in the second half

BEN STEVENSON 7

U’s man of the match. Played the game at his own pace throughout despite the poor surface

ABO EISA 5

Was unable to show off his skill in the first half before being replaced at half-time

SAMMIE SZMODICS 6

Committed as always but had few scoring opportunities on his 150th U’s appearance

COURTNEY SENIOR 7

Went on another fine solo run to earn the penalty that Nouble converted and always looked dangerous

FRANK NOUBLE 7

Slotted his penalty away well and was unlucky not to score before that when denied by O’Hara. Booked
