COLCHESTER United fell to a 1-0 defeat at Plymouth Argyle to suffer their first League Two loss of the season.

Antoni Sarcevic's goal early in the second half was enough to give Argyle all three points and leave the U's empty handed.

The result leaves John McGreal's side still searching for their first win of the new campaign.

The Gazette's Colchester United reporter Jonathan Waldron was at Home Park and rates the players, following a narrow defeat on the road.

DEAN GERKEN 7

Made a fine save from Sarcevic early on and had little chance with the winning goal

KANE VINCENT-YOUNG 7

U’s man of the match. Always looked comfortable in possession and showed attacking quality.

TOM EASTMAN 7

Produced another competent display at the back and was rarely beaten in the air.

LUKE PROSSER 6

Was undone by Sarcevic early leading to Gerken save but had a better second half.

COHEN BRAMALL 6

Was prevented from showing as much attacking intent as he did against Vale by Plymouth threat.

TOM LAPSLIE 7

Was agonisingly close to scoring just before Sarcevic’s winner. Made plenty of telling interceptions.

BEN STEVENSON 7

Looked lively in midfield on his first start of the season and kept the ball well. Booked.

FRANK NOUBLE 6

Was well marshalled by the Plymouth defence and had less influence on the left flank.

JEVANI BROWN 6

Struggled to influence the game despite getting in promising positions and looking lively.

COURTNEY SENIOR 6

Showed plenty of flair and skill but often lacked a final product before being withdrawn.

LUKE NORRIS 7

Led the line pretty well and came close to scoring in the second half but lacked service at times.
