AN Ipswich Town supporters' event is being arranged to help “re-engage” the Blues’ fanbase in Tendring.

It is being run by the Manningtree supporters’ branch, in conjunction with the Clacton branch, and will take place at Lawford Venture Centre on Wednesday, October 30.

Organisers are hoping to have players in attendance – ideally a mix of young, established and former stars.

There will also be a special presentation by Ipswich first-team recruitment analyst Alex Hood, who lives in Lawford.

“We’re very much looking forward to what should be an enjoyable evening,” said co-organiser Steve Butcher, from the Manningtree branch.

“We know there are many Town fans living across north Essex, especially here in Tendring.

“Understandably, enthusiasm levels dipped over a number of years as performances declined and we saw numbers fall in terms of those travelling to games with our branches.

“However, we’re hoping an event like this will help re-engage them.

"Since (manager) Paul Lambert arrived at the club, enthusiasm has returned and the fanbase has been reconnected with the club “Our event is principally, but not exclusively, aimed at generating interest in the Manningtree and Clacton branches.

“Hopefully the fortunes of the club on the pitch will help in that respect, too.

“The vision then is that future events and things like coach travel becomes more viable.”

It is hoped the players will take part in a question and answer session, before signing autographs and posing for photos.

“The list of players is still a work in progress and we’re in communication with the club,” added Butcher.

“But we’re particularly hoping for young players, because it’s important we connect with the new generation of supporters and not just those who fondly remember the good old days.”

There will also be a raffle and light refreshments will be available.

There will be a small fee and any surplus funds generated will be donated to the Beat Goes On appeal, if it still needs any funding, and/or the Academy.
