COLCHESTER United have received a double Sky Bet League Two award nomination for December.

U's head coach John McGreal has been shortlisted for the Manager of the Month accolade, following his side's unbeaten run of form of late.

And midfielder Harry Pell has in the running for the Player of the Month award, following some excellent performances.

McGreal has been nominated after Colchester matched goals for points in December with 11 of each from five unbeaten games, as they climbed into the play-off places.

The U's saw off Salford City, Leyton Orient and Carlisle United last month, along with securing draws against Exeter City and Scunthorpe United.

The other managers to be nominated are Plymouth Argyle boss Ryan Lowe, former U's loanee Matt Taylor who is in charge at Exeter City and Richie Wellens of league leaders, Swindon Town.

The winner will be announced on Friday.

The Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel comprises former Barnsley manager Danny Wilson, Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Communications Director Mark Rowan, and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.

Meanwhile, U's midfielder Harry Pell has been shortlisted for the Player of the Month award, for December.

The popular U's vice-captain registered three goals and two assists in five games and made his driving presence felt with important contributions to his side’s unbeaten month.

He netted two headers, including a last-minute diving effort for the winner against Salford.

Pell is up against Swindon Town hot-shot Eoin Doyle who could become the first player ever to win the award three months in a row, defender Anthony O’Connor of Bradford City and Exeter City winger Randell Williams.

The winner will be announced on Friday and the judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Communications Director Mark Rowan and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.
