COLCHESTER United head coach John McGreal insists his glass is always half full and that he doesn't take a "blind bit" of notice when it comes to negativity on social media.

The U's have stuttered in recent weeks and slid to a 2-0 defeat at home to Cheltenham Town, at the JobServe Community Stadium on Saturday.

It was their third defeat in four games - a run that has seen dip to eighth in the League Two table.

There was some criticism of the team on social media, following their latest setback at the weekend.

However, McGreal is refusing to let any negativity disrupt his side's quest for a play-off place or possible spot in the top three.

“My glass is always half full," said the U's chief, who takes his team to Carlisle United on Saturday.

“There’s always noise about it but I don’t listen.

“It’s just the way the job is at the minute and the way society is.

“I don’t take a blind bit of notice of social media.

“I’ve been advised from when I first took the job not to get involved with stuff like that, so I don’t tend to.

“We know where we are as a club.

“We feel as though we’re a progressive club and we’ve had a massive improvement on what we did, last year.

“We’ve been able to utilise what we’ve been able to do with a bigger squad.

“We got to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup for the first time in 45 years and a first game at Manchester United, we’re just outside the play-off positions, we had more than 100 days without a league defeat and we got through to the knockout stages of the Leasing.com Trophy."

Meanwhile, McGreal is confident his squad has enough talent and depth to get over the finishing line this season and into the top seven.

The U's have ten games left - five at home and five away.

“With the last few weeks we’ve had, with the different storms we’ve had, it takes its toll," he said.

“We finish at the end of April with the games programme and then you go into the middle of May for the play-offs – there’s a congested area of fixtures now and you do need that squad.

“We feel like we’ve got a squad deep enough to deal with any eventualities.

“We’ve had to use the squad throughout the season, even bringing in the under-23s, so they’re there for back up.

“We feel as though we’ve got players who can come in, in certain areas."
