AS the wait goes on as to when the U’s might be able to complete their play-off journey, the thoughts of the fans have been turning to how and where they will be supporting the team to promotion.

There is always a small chance of course that the dramas of League One will somehow scupper us when the big vote happens next Tuesday, but let’s hope that common sense prevails and that amongst all of the many club proposals thrown onto the decision table, there is one that stands out as having the least collateral damage.

I still believe that the end result for League One will be messy, and maybe even in League Two with the Macclesfield v Stevenage debate on the rise this week, but to stop things dragging on further, surely the EFL Board must draw the line. We need to move on.

The U’s lads are back in training and that’s great. Hopefully the four positive-testing people are soon recovered and it was good to hear that the U’s have had no more having to self-isolate this week.

I’m sure the players are back in their happy place with a ball at their feet and a load of grass to run around on. When the green light is given, they’ll be raring to go.

So what of us, the fans? Perhaps you have already converted your spare room or garden shed into some sort of footballing paradise decorated with all you have in blue and white?

Mini fridge in the corner and a TV screen the size of your dining room table, with friends already lined up to join your virtual “Zoom” terrace. Perhaps you favour a larger event? Maybe the U’s will try to do something in the car park with their portable big screen? Radio on, engines off and enjoy the action.

It might need to a cloudy evening though to stop the disappearing sun upsetting the picture.

Alternatively you could be in the stadium yourself, or actually a flattering picture of yourself could be bolted to seat. I’ll be using my standard media shot of Brad Pitt in a photo-shopped U’s shirt of course.

Several clubs including the U’s will be offering this. It’s another example of our club trying to do all that they can to keep the club/fan relationship at its strongest.

I doubt it’s a money spinner for the U’s and if it helps the players in some small way then I think it’s a great idea.

I am sure that the U’s would love to do more if cash was bountiful but as we all know it is not. With that in mind, there continues to be noise, some political, from up the food chain about the future of football in this country and the suggested impending doom of a good number of clubs.

This will be the next big story and focus I think once the EFL finally reaches a conclusion.

For the U’s, all I would ask the fans for is to try and understand the reality of our financial situation. Unless someone or something is going to grant lower league clubs a pot of cash to just get through now and the next few seasons, then please don’t expect too much.

Take care U’s fans, keep your fingers crossed for next Tuesday and thanks for your support.
