A HOST of former Colchester United favourites will be donning their boots and rolling back the years this weekend.

U's legend Karl Duguid will lead a side packed full of ex-Colchester players and other former professionals against a Halstead Town Legends team on Sunday - all in the name of charity.

Duguid and his fellow Colchester promotion winners Kevin Watson, George Elokobi, John White and Paul Abrahams are all set to feature in the match at the Humbugs' Milbank Stadium.

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Stuart Nethercott will also play, along with the likes of Carl Pentney, Peter Cawley and his son Jack Cawley, who recently played at Wembley for Concord Rangers in the FA Trophy Final.

Former U's youngsters Nicky Haydon, Dean Francis, David Schultz and Danny Slatter are also set to feature.

Duguid, who made nearly 600 career appearances for Colchester and Plymouth Argyle during his impressive playing career, says he is looking forward to the day.

Duguid said: "As soon as I text the lads, they came back straight away and said they'd love to play.

"I love organising it because I just love having a kick about with the lads and the people I played with!

"It's been done through all the right channels and hopefully it'll be a good day and they'll be a good turnout and people will get involved.

"We obviously want to raise some money along the way but people have missed the football.

"It might not be as lively as a normal game but it's an opportunity to watch a game and enjoy it and get that atmosphere.

"It's nice for people to come and watch and raise a bit of money along the way."

Money raised on the day will go to Cancer Research UK and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Doors open at 2pm with the match kicking off at 3pm.

At half-time there will be a crossbar challenge for anyone to take part.

The bar will be open and there will also be a BBQ, ice-cream and hot drinks.

Admission is free but donations would be appreciated as the event is raising money for Cancer Research charity.
