CAMPAIGNERS are celebrating after plans to create new quarries in Ardleigh have been shelved.

Essex County Council’s final draft policy for quarrying said it preferred Ardleigh’s quarry to be extended rather instead of building a new one.

The 249-page Minerals Local Plan document is due to be approved by council chiefs tomorrow, December 7, and then full council on Tuesday, December 11.

It will then go through final consultation between January and March 2013 before finally being submitted to the Secretary of State for approval at the end of next summer.

Although the saved sites could be returned to the preferred list it is thought to be unlikely.
