Jury finds Dovercourt man guilty of stabbing James Johnson

A MAN has been convicted of attempting to murder Harwich man James Johnson.

A jury at Chelmsford Crown Court today found Kyle Ogilvie, 22, stabbed Mr Johnson in the head in Mill Lane, Harwich, on May 6.

Surgeons had to extract a knife from the head of the victim, who was in a coma for ten days before gradually recovering.

Mr Johnson was a former Frinton care worker.

Ogilvie, of Station Lane, Dovercourt, will be sentenced next month and has been told to expect a lengthy jail sentence.

"The drink and the knife made a toxic combination," said DCI Simon Parkes.

Drink and weapons proved a “toxic combination” for attacker Kyle Ogilvie, police have said.

Essex Police said Kyle Ogilvie displayed “pure madness” by taking a kitchen knife from a house party to the street to stab James Johnson.

James, of Cliff Road, Dovercourt, was attacked in an alleyway on Mill Lane at around 2am on May 6, as he walked home from his family’s house.

The pair were involved in a fight which ended up with a blade lodged more than 7cm into James’s head.

Following a detailed investigation by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate Kyle Ogilvie was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

The 23-year-old unemployed man stood trial at Chelmsford Crown Court for four weeks. He will be sentenced in late January.

Senior investigating officer, DCI Simon Parkes, said: "Just carrying a weapon is idiotic. Taking one to a fight is pure madness. Ogilvie said that he had consumed so much alcohol that he cannot remember the incident. The drink and the knife made a toxic combination.

"The speed with which he was arrested, with the assistance from the local community, means he will now be imprisoned for some time to reflect on his actions."
