Shop local and help traders

SHOPPERS have been called on to spend their cash in local stores a part of Small Business Saturday.

Across the UK on December 7 are being encouraged to get their purses at the ready and support small businesses by turning their backs on the big chains for a day.

Shoppers are being asked to use local cafes, stores and traders.

The idea began in America three years ago but now Shadow Business Secretary, Chuka Umunna, has launched a UK version.

It has support from David Cameron and local councillors.

Harwich councillor Ivan Henderson said: “We want people to use the small businesses, small shops and cafes."
