A TEACHER and long-standing community volunteer has been honoured for his dedication with an MBE.

Nigel Spencer, of All Saints Primary in Dovercourt, has been teaching for more than 38 years.

Starting in Chelmsford before moving to Ramsey Primary he became one of the youngest deputy head teachers in Essex.

After around 22 years at the school he moved to Harwich Community Primary and later All Saints primary, where he still works three days a week.
