Tendring Neighbourhood Watch chairman Mike Vaughan-Chatfield believes streetlights should be kept on using LED technology, which has been implemented in Southend.
He believes it would be crucial for community safety.
“No lights will be switched off in Southend and I see that as the way forward. The lights are there for safety which should be maintained,” he said.
“Using LED lighting would be cheaper to install and run so short term and long term it would appear to be the best option.
“I feel the County Council have gone down the other road so far they don’t want to turn back.
“It is a question of doing what is right for the community or trying to save a bit of face.”
An Essex County Council spokesman said: “Essex County Council has looked into the possibility of using LED lighting; however this would not be economically viable for a county of our size at present."
