MORE than 100 Christmas trees were shredded as part of a recycling scheme in Tendring.

The event, which was held on Saturday, was the first time Tendring Council has collected Christmas trees from residents.

Officers from the council were at six different venues across the district to pick up the trees.

Nick Turner, cabinet member for the environment, praised residents for taking up the initiative.

“We were unsure about how many people would turn up, so to get over 100 trees is really good news, for us and for the environment.

“My thanks to everyone who took part and we look forward to offering the service again next year”.

The trees were shredded by the council’s horticultural team and the chippings will be reused in the council-maintained gardens across the district.
