THE future of iconic swans are in danger after the founder of a group designed to safeguard them decided to quit.
Alex Smith, who started Swanwatch in Mistley nearly 20 years ago, has decided to call it a day for personal reasons.
A spokesman for Swanwatch said: “Even with continuing input by Swanwatch, along with the unstinting generosity and participation by its supporters over the years it is proving difficult to find volunteers to assist with the regular feed programme."
The future of the swans could now be in jeopardy with 60 swans having left the herd in the last year.
