A NEW education and skills scrutiny committee is to be set up in Tendring.
The committee will replace the council’s controversial education working party, which upset some headteachers when it was set up last year.
Former Tendring Council cabinet member Stephen Mayzes faced a fierce backlash from teachers after claiming schools across the district were failing.
Headteachers claimed the figures he used were out of date.
Mr Mayzes lost his post when cabinet was reshuffled by new council leader Mick Page.
Mr Page has now suggested a new scrutiny committee instead in a bid to improve education in the district.
Cabinet member Carlo Guglielmi said: “The district council has no statutory responsibility for education – but we firmly believe that education is something that needs looking at to tackle the lack of skills in the district."
