BUNTING, balloons and vintage decorations galore welcomed visitors to a care home for a 1940s inspired open day.

The Don Thomson home in Dovercourt opened its doors as part of National Care Home Open Day.

Staff and residents were dressed for the occasion in 1940s tea dresses and pinnies – complete with headscarves and rollers – to welcome their guests.

Afternoon tea was also on the menu with tables decked in Union Jacks and sandwiches, homemade cakes and cream teas on offer.

There was also an old-fashioned game station set up in the home’s lounges, where residents and visitors got to try their hand at 40s and 50s school games.

Rebecca Dunn, home manager at Don Thomson House, said: “It was a really wonderful day."
