FOOTBALLERS netted more than £1,000 for charity by playing in a special fundraising tournament.

Eight teams competed for top place in the Acorn Charity Invitation Shield, which was won by the Langham Lodges.

The competition included seven games and raised £1,100 for the Mistley-based Acorn Village Charity for adults with learning disabilities.

The shield has raised more than £60,000 for Acorn Village since it first started in 1972.
