AN extra £20.5million is being spent to give thousands more homes across Essex access to superfast broadband internet speeds.
County Hall bosses have given the green light to put £5.5million towards the project.
That figure will be matched by the Government with another £9.5million coming from the broadband supplier.
The extra cash is on top of the £24.6million Superfast Essex programme which is currently under way. It can already provide 24Mbps broadband to 2,300 homes and businesses in Colchester, Braintree and Harlow, and is expected to come to Tendring in the coming months.
The latest move will provide superfast broadband to a further 60,000 homes and businesses, including those in rural areas.
County Hall eventually wants 95 per cent of properties to have access.
