HALLOWEEN can be bags of fun – but things that go bump in the night are not everyone’s cup of tea.
The Standard has teamed up with the police to help anyone who does not want to be disturbed by trick-or-treaters. All they have to do is simply display this special poster (left) in their front door and, hopefully, that will get the message across. Manningtree police community support officer Paul Beer said: “We’re not being killjoys and we’ve got nothing against children having fun.
“We just want to give people the chance to put up these posters if they are not interested in Halloween and don’t want people knocking on their doors.”
In America, where trick-or-treat originated, pumpkins are left by front doors to let people know that homes are taking part.
But there will be no poster outside Mr Beer’s house. “Last year, we must have given out 4kg of sweets,” he said.
“Once kids know where to get sweets, they come back year after year.”
