Almost one in five workers confess they would exaggerate their pay to a potential employer, according to a new study.
A survey of more than 1,000 adults by jobs website Glassdoor found that 16 to 24-year-olds were more likely to inflate their salaries.
Workers in the north of England were most likely to be honest about how much they earned if they were speaking to an employer about a job.
Jon Ingham, of Glassdoor, said: "Inflating your existing salary when speaking to new employers is not a strategy I would recommend.
"There are far more effective ways to negotiate a higher salary when you are applying for a new job - the secret is to do your homework and then not be afraid to ask."
