CHILDREN from schools across Tendring joined together to mark the day the First World War ended.

The Manningtree branch of the Royal British Legion asked school's to take part in the service at at Manningtree War Memorial on Friday.

Armistice Day was commemorated at 11am on November 11, marking the anniversary of the date and time the war in 1918.

Jamie Robinson, chairman of the branch, had urged young people to attend and pay their respects to all those lost.

Youngsters from primary schools across the area, including Bradfield, Mistley, Manningtree and Lawford, took part.

Mr Robinson said: "We had more than a hundred young people take part, which was amazing.

"We also had youngsters from Manningtree High School reading the Roll of Honour.

"We asked young people to take part because we want Remembrance Day to keep going.

"It is part of the school curriculum, but leaving the class room to come to a remembrance service really brings it home to them.

"It is always a moving occasion. I served in the Falklands and always think about the eight colleagues I lost."
